FAQ

What do you write about at Pure Dancing with the Stars?
Primarily: Predictions. I use data from all the previous seasons and try to predict who would be eliminated before the season even begins. I also use a similar method and attempt to predict the scores before the Monday performance show. During the off season I have attempted (and in some cases stopped) posting a side-by-side comparison of dances done to recycled songs.

During Season 14 I added something new in that after every week (or few weeks) I would post a reflection of the predictions thus far. Throughout the season and thereafter I would also add in any additional posts that provide additional statistical and data analysis of the dancers, professional, or anything else in between. This has eventually become known as the PureDWTS Stats Class.

I also help out with finding music that was played during the Performance and Results shows if and whenever necessary… sometimes having a good ear goes a long way.

Why don’t you provide your own opinions about the dancing on Dancing with the Stars for PureDWTS?
Simple, with one of the bloggers already providing weekly commentary via her Power Rankings and another blogger adding her own opinions via her weekly Dancing by the Numbers posts… what purpose would it serve to provide additional confusing commentary to such a popular series?

I felt it best if I kept my opinions to myself and focus more on being as “unbiased” as possible by focusing purely on the numbers and using the numbers and past data to lead the way. Any opinions that I may have I’ll add after the dancers leave the competition.

What do you do at Pure So You Think You Can Dance and Pure America’s Got Talent?
Up til the current year, I primarily helped out with the music lists from the auditions. I have a trained enough ear that I could figure out almost all the music that happened in the various episodes up until the live show.

This season at PureSYTYCD I’ll be providing more commentary and power rankings for the auditions and performance shows respectively. I also plan to provide the same at PureAmericasGotTalent.

What is the Pure TV Network?
From the website:

The Pure TV Network is a group of blogs writing about TV shows. The orignal focus of the Pure TV Network focused on reality TV and in particular the music that is broadcast to the world through reality TV, but is quickly expanding to include blogs from all of the major network TV shows.

Pure Dancing with the Stars, Pure So You Think You Can Dance, Pure America’s Got Talent, Pure X-Factor are all part of this network and the sites are all run by John Lynn

On PureTVNet I will be posting my thoughts and analysis on NBC’s the Voice there as opposed to my personal blog. If by some insane chance I find time to watch other reality television shows that might catch my interest it will be posted there as well.

However for those reality shows in Việt Nam that are adapted from the United States, if I happen to have time I will post a little about those shows unless they happened to directly tie into the United States version of the show… in which case it would be at PureTVNet.

When will you be off hiatus at Currents? Where could I find out what happened to the characters since then?
We went on hiatus for a little while in 2007 when our individual schedules got so crazy that we couldn’t co-write any longer. We got back together for an episode in early 2008 with the intent of continuing, but that never materialized. As of right now we are still on hiatus, but talk has been going on about trying to start up again. After talking to some of the other writers on the web-serial, we decided that the easiest way to continue the series would be via a weblog. Via the weblog we would create individual accounts either for the authors or individual characters where they could give their own thoughts and keep readers up-to-date with what has been going on in their lives.

As the series web designer: I am currently in the process of figuring out how to set up and adapt the weblog so that it flows with the rest of the website. A couple of us writers have already decided which characters to “kill off” in the series and which to keep.

In the meantime, some of the characters I wrote while on Currents that will no longer make an appearance will be posted on my personal writing blog: Beyond the Abyss.

Where could I find the Jem and the Holograms RPG? Could I join?
Unfortunately when the players of that particular story slowly started to disappear (myself included) the owner and everyone else decided collectively to end the story. The group and posts for Like a Dream can still be found at the Like a Dream YahooGroup. However the original website that contained all the information of the players, the characters and the story has been long gone. I might still have some old information from the website, if I happen upon them I will post it at “Beyond the Abyss”

Will you complete your fanfiction: Elements of Song?
Unfortunately, no. So much time has elapsed since I started that particular story that to go back to it now would cause an abrupt change in writing style. What I will do, however, is over time post my original plans for the story and a bit about the characters, their backstories and how I had intended to tie the various boy bands to the world of Sailor Moon. I had originally written a short synopsis was in the middle of breaking down what would happen in each chapter. You can find these little tidbits and additions at “Beyond the Abyss”.

What happened to the other fanfictions that you were going to write?
Forbidden Fruit was written during a very specific timeline almost a decade ago as a trilogy. The first story was nearing completion when I stopped cold turkey. Ironically enough, many of the elements that I wrote in Forbidden Fruit (and its sequels) happened in the movie The Prince and Me so I don’t think I will be completing this anytime soon.

Many of the other fanfictions that were in development when I decided to stop developing them as fanfictions and see if I could adapt them as original fiction. Any major updates I will post to the site/blog and any subsequent ideas that I originally had chose to discard could be found at “Beyond the Abyss”

What else are you working on?
I am in the process of editing and/or rewriting a few scripts. One is going through a significant house cleaning so it would be more streamlined, while a ten-minute play just needs a couple of tweaks here and there and I may end up submitting that into a few ten-minute play festivals.

In the meantime , I was tapped to write a series of vignettes based off of the short stories of Ray Bradbury’s The Illustrated Man. However “real life” got in the way so although it is still on my to-do list… it will be something that may eventually come to fruition.

In between everything I find time to pursue community theatre work… For every role I am cast in I automatically update on the Thespian page with links provided so that you may find me there as well. Any films, trailers, etc that can be found online I have also provided links to on there as well.

Where do you find time to travel?
Whenever possible. I have friends and relatives all over the country (let’s not even get into all those I have to visit out of country!). I try to plan one out of country trip every one or two years… which lately appears to be Việt Nam since I have family there.

Reflections on any and all trips will be on the blog… eventually I will have a travel page which would also include conventions, parks, etc that I have been as well.
